WELCOME

The Akis Art Prize pays tribute to Timothy Akis, who is recognised as a pioneer of contemporary art in Papua New Guinea. Akis' exceptional and distinctive works were influenced by his translation work with an anthropologist in Simbai, Madang Province. His unique drawings became a subject of interest within the artistic community, and his first exhibition spurred an entire generation of artists. Akis' story is a reminder that art is a powerful tool for communication, transcending barriers and allowing us to express our unique perspectives.
